ABSTRACT
Background: The maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Indonesia was 359 per 100,000 live births. Severe preeclampsia was a direct cause of maternal death related to pregnancy after hemorrhage. The incidence of severe preeclampsia 3-5% of pregnancies with a maternal mortality rate of 15%.
Objective: To obtain the case fatality rate and risk factors of maternal mortality in severe preeclampsia in Dr. Sardjito Hospital during the period of 2008 to 2012.
Design: Retrospective Cohort
Materials and method: Data were extructed from the medical records of severe preeclamptic women who delivered vaginally and caesarean section during the study periods at Dr. Sardjito Hospital. Chi square and logistic regression models were used for analisyng these data.
Results: There were 48 maternal deaths out of 742 severe preeclamptic women. The case fatality rate of severe preeclampsia was 6,47. Risk factors statistically significant difference were eclampsia (OR4,710; 95%CI 1,949-11,383; p=0,001), platelets account (OR=3,441; 95%CI 1,585-7,471; p=0,002), and education (OR 1,962; 95%CI 1,032-3,730; p=0,040).
Conclusions: Case fatality rate (CFR) severe preeclampsia in Dr. Sardjito Hospital in 2008-2012 was 6.47. The factors affecting the risk of maternal death were eclampsia, trombosit counts <100.000/ µL, and low level of education.
